Principal of Parkview Senior School Usha Bahadur said 2019 had been a milestone year for her, having been newly appointed as principal of the school.

“We strive to provide a holistic education while instilling in children the values that are integral to a democratic society – curiosity, empathy and an appreciation for diversity,” said Bahadur.

She said Parkview Senior had always been a hub of activity, with this year being no different. Learners excelled in the Horizon Maths Competition, where 28 learners were placed in the top 160 in Gauteng. The senior hockey boys’ team ended the season undefeated and the chess team emerged as winners of the Grayston League.

Other highlights included the Polar Bear Plunge where 102 learners braved the icy water in the middle of winter in an effort to raise funds. The Spring Dance, laser tag and school tours were some other highlights. The school’s concert The Parkview Pops showcased the talent of children as they performed artistically choreographed dances to music across the decades.

“Helping others is an integral part of being successful and our children have been involved in various outreach programmes during the course of the year.

The prefects were involved in various Mandela Day initiatives as part of their 67-minute contribution to make a difference in the community. Some assisted at Princess Alice Adoption Home while others spent time making sleeping bags for the homeless.”

Bahadur looks forward to an exciting 2020 with the school’s Evening Fun Walk/Run at the Parkview Golf Course. She invited the greater community to join in the fun.

“We are also hoping that our long-awaited science lab and classrooms will finally be built by the Gauteng Department of Education.”

“I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday and a wonderful festive season.”
